Boundaries and obstacles have always interested me, from visual, physical, environmental, social injustices to biopsychosocial and cultural barriers.

The work includes installations, digital and structural, architectural objects, and any other means of exploring obstacles within the public spaces. Storytelling as a means to communicate shapes every work as well as the specific site.

Bio:

Robert Hais was born in Halmstad Sweden 1978, by immigrants parents from Czechoslovakia, that fled the 1968 disturbances. He moved to London, England for education at the University of the Arts, fine art, and stayed there for some time before moving back to Sweden. Briefly staying in Gothenburg and Stockholm before moving back to the south of Sweden where he lives and practice art professionally today.

Ever since the early childhood he has had an obsession to communicate visually. When coming in contact with Peter Stickland, Artist/course director at the UAL, who introduced the powerful language of space as a means to communicate he embraced it fully and continues to developed new methodologies to this day. The journey in to the arts also made him look back to the roots for personal depth, revisiting the memories of an abusive father, not having access to family in Czechoslovakia, persecuting phone calls from Prague in the early years, the loss of loved ones, and a destructive behaviour.

Humbled by the life experience putting the pieces back again with the arts as a new foundation. During the process it became apparent that in order for him to communicate fully neither the object based or the concept based art could hold the narrative needed. The art is physical and structural often large scale communicating boundaries and interconnectivity, order and chaos, confinement and open space, all closely connected to the sites and places integrating with the public. Some of the works are digital, videos and animations, and deals with the same themes or narratives as the structural works, always in contact with the space around the work itself.
